Tarot FAQs
I know tarot can sometimes feel intimidating, but I strive to make all readings a safe, inspiring, and magical space in which you can explore your intuition.
To relieve any nerves you may feel going into a reading, here is what to expect during a reading, and answers to the most common tarot questions I get asked
Have a question that isn’t answered here?

First, we will ground and center ourselves through some deep breathing exercises. After which, we will both feel fully present and ready to embark on this journey together
I will start by asking why you booked this session. What query do you have for the cards? Is there a certain relationship or situation you’d like insight into? Are you in a period of transition and need some guidance? Or do you want a more general reading to see what the cards have to say to you so you can thrive in the season you are currently in? You must come into the session with intention.
Please remember that I am not a fortune teller or a psychic. The more I know about your situation and what led you to get your cards read, the better I’ll be able to interpret the cards that get laid down.
Once we’ve discussed your goal for the reading, I will decide on the spread that will best apply to your query and lay the cards into position.
Once the cards are laid out, I will explain what each card means, its main themes, how it applies to your situation, and its position in the spread. After explaining each card individually, I will tie all the cards together to form one cohesive story. Using intuition and whatever information you’ve given me in our conversation, I will give meaning to the cards laid out before you.
When my interpretation is done, I will ask, “What has stood out to you in this reading? Do you see anything applicable to your situation?” During this time, I will encourage you to reflect on anything you just heard and apply it to the question you originally asked at the beginning of the reading. I will lead you to examine the symbolism on each card and ask if you see yourself or any characters in your story in any of the cards.
We will then have a deeper conversation about the card’s meaning and application to your life. If time allows, you can ask more questions and I can pull a few more clarifying cards.
I’ll end the reading by reminding you to take a picture of the spread so you can reflect on it more later and journal about your experience.

There are plenty of reasons why someone might get a tarot reading! Some common reasons I hear from my querent’s are:
To explore your spiritual journey and deepen your connection to the divine and your own intuition
To uncover limiting beliefs or subconscious blocks holding you back
To navigate a major life transition, such as a career change, a relocation, or the end of a relationship
To gain clarity on an important decision you need to make and explore potential pathways to get to your answer
To find reassurance and perspective during a time of uncertainty and anxiety
To receive guidance on how to thrive during this current season of your life and how to best align yourself with your goals and values
To gain insight into a romantic, platonic, or professional relationship or potential partnership
To understand patterns in your love life and how to break unhealthy cycles
To navigate challenges in family dynamics and heal from trauma
To gain clarity on your career path and professional growth
To process grief, loss, or a difficult emotional experience
To reconnect with a sense of magic, wonder, and possibility in life

You can ask tarot cards anything from:
a yes/no question,
a very open-ended question like “Whats the vibe this summer?”
a more specific questions like “How can I welcome more romantic love into my life?”
Many people are drawn to the tarot to get more insight into a particular situation or relationship; in which they might ask
“How can I create more connection between myself and my partner?” or
“What can I do to find the job of my dreams?”
Think about what you want to know and why. How will you use this information? How will you feel if the answer is not as you hoped?
Use your intuition when asking the tarot a question. Be guided to what is closet to your heart or what is on the forefront of your thoughts.
If you are stuck with what question you want to ask, don’t fret! We will talk before the reading and refine a question for the cards together.

Tarot is about seeing meaning and connections, finding purpose, and tapping into your subconscious. Think of reading tarot cards as a conversation between you and your inner self.
There are many ways to use the tarot… fortune telling, magic and ritual, spiritual development, goal setting, and more. I use the tarot to help myself and others connect more deeply with their intuition, allowing space for their higher self to shine through.

Tarot is in no way representative of or influenced by evil, demons, or Satan.
Tarot is just one of many ways to connect with the divine. The way you interpret the cards will be inspired by your personal and religious experiences and influences.
Many Christians use a verse from Deuteronomy to back up their belief that tarot is evil, which reads: “Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord” (Deuteronomy 18:9-12).
First of all, the book of Deuteronomy is a collection of laws given to Moses by God with directions specifically for the people of ancient Israel who are preparing to enter (ie. commit genocide to and colonize) the “promised land.”
There is probably a Bible verse to demonize any practice you want to affirm or discredit. According to the Bible, it is detestable to be gay (Lev 20:13), eat bacon (Deut 14:8), or wear a cotton-polyester blend (Deut 22:11). The Bible has been used to endorse slavery (Col 3:22), oppress women (1 Tim 2:11-12), beat your children (Prov 23:13-14), and commit genocide (the entire book of Joshua).
Some scholars believe that these laws against divination were put in place to keep women from having an active role in spiritual leadership, as women have played a sacred role as oracles in many cultures over many time periods.
Brittany Muller writes in her book Contemplative Tarot that we can meet God in the inner dialogue that emerges when we allow the images of the tarot to speak to our souls.
The symbolism found in the tarot can help us discern our emotional states, uncover thoughts and feelings we might be avoiding, and reveal parts of ourselves that can be difficult to see on our own. Once we have more closely examined our innermost thoughts, we can offer them up in prayer.
Indeed, tarot can help us know ourselves more fully and deepen our relationship with the Divine.
In the end, only you can decide whether or not tarot is right for you. If you do not feel comfortable getting your cards read because of your religious upbringing, I invite you to challenge the root of those beliefs and pray about it. Christians access their intuition or inner wisdom all the time, they call it being led by the Holy Spirit. Ask the higher power that resides within you whether or not tarot cards are part of your spiritual journey.

Tarot cards originated in Italy in the 15th century as a card game played by wealthy nobility called tarocchi. The Spiritualist movement adapted it to be primarily used as a tool for divination in the 18th century.
The iconic Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck was created in 1909 and is the inspiration for the many thousands of other tarot decks that now exist. The Rider-Waite-Smith deck is what I primarily conduct readings with.
Tarot cards were used by the Romani people as a form of fortune-telling and quickly became central to their economic survival. To this day, the Romani are oppressed, ridiculed, and persecuted. It is the Romani people that gave tarot its mysticism and marginality. This history must not be forgotten or dismissed. Using tarot as an act of self-care and empowerment must be practiced with honor and recognition to those that shaped its usage.

Tarot doesn’t predict your future, but it does have the power to tell you information about forces in your present reality and how to make changes that can help you move toward the future you want to create. Tarot is an instrument of self-empowerment that helps you create the future you desire. You are the maker of your own destiny, no matter what the cards tell you.
Even in the past-present-future spread, the card that represents the future can only show you what is possible, it is not a cut-and-dry prescription for the life that awaits you. Your free will determines your future and what path you will take.

No. I do not claim to have “psychic powers” or clairvoyance in any way. You don’t need these abilities to read tarot. The only requirement to read tarot is an openness to learn and a willingness to connect with and listen to your intuition.

Through a lot of reading, practise, mentorship, and self-study.
No two tarot readers will interpret the cards the same way, and that’s the beauty of tarot. It’s flexible and malleable, the meanings change and shift based on the querent’s goals and the reader’s intuition.
Yes, each card has a traditional interpretation, based on numerology and symbolism, but the way the reader understands and explains these meanings will differ greatly.

I’m going to let you in on a not-so-secret that other card readers might disagree with – it’s all completely random. However, every card carries a spiritual truth and lesson that can contribute to your personal and spiritual growth. All cards have equal value and no cards are inherently good or bad.
There is an infinite number of combinations of cards that can get pulled, and a good tarot reader can make any combination in this infinity applicable to the querent’s life, encouraging them to tap into their intuition and draw the answers out of the cards themselves.
That being said, it is often quite scary how accurate the cards that get drawn are to my querent’s lives. I can’t explain it. You’ll just have to experience the magic for yourself.

You don’t necessarily need to “believe” in tarot to get a reading. But keep in mind that you only get out of the reading what you put into it. Tarot readings are an exchange of trusting energy between the reader and the seeker, and if that faithful collaboration is missing, the magic just doesn’t happen.
If you have a very negative, cynical attitude towards tarot and are being disrespectful to me or my craft, I will probably refuse to read for you

This may be the most common question I am asked. If you are scared to get a reading because of what it may reveal, you are not alone!
The tarot can only reveal to you what you already know. It has a knack for confirming a thought you’ve been pondering or calling you out on something you’ve been denying. The most important thing to remember is that only you control your future. You are the master of your destiny. The cards can guide you, but you must take the lead and decide what direction to take.

Yes! I love reading for groups and at events of any size, from small dinner parties to giant music festivals! If you’d like to book me for an event or you need entertainment for your next party, please reach out!

Absolutely! I love reading tarot for couples (or even for platonic couples, like roommates or close friends). You can choose any one of my tarot reading offerings for a couple, just understand that the query behind the reading must be applicable specifically for your relationship together, and both of you must be present for and enthusiastically consenting of the reading.
Some questions you may ask during these couple readings are:
What is the current energy of our relationship?
What lessons are we meant to learn from each other?
How can we navigate a specific challenge we’re currently facing?
What can we do to keep our relationship thriving long-term?
What do we each bring to this relationship that makes it unique?

Every tarot deck follows the same structure and is composed to the same 78 cards. Although there may be different illustrations and artistic differences from deck to deck, they all contain the same cards within them.
Oracle cards take much greater creative liberties, no two oracle decks are the same and they usually come with a book that explains the meaning of each card. I am a big fan of Kim Kran’s oracle decks, as she is a fabulous artist, writer and intuitive.
Both tarot and oracle cards are great for tapping into your intuition and guiding your personal growth. If you book a full reading with me, or order an emailed reading, I might pull a few clarifying oracle cards as well.
-
Of course! If you find great meaning and pleasure in getting your cards read, I encourage you to take up the practise for yourself! I give you permission to go out and buy your own deck of cards, do not believe in the superstition that you need to be gifted your first deck!
Remember that learning to read tarot intuitively is an ongoing journey of continually learning to connect to your inner wisdom.
If you want to keep learning about the cards, subscribe to my newsletter, where I publish a new tarot spread and card profile (nearly) each week!

I am not a medical doctor, financial advisor, clinical counselor, or lawyer. If you need the services of any one of these professionals, tarot is not a valid substitution.
Tarot is a journey of self-exploration, so your questions about other people should only be about your relationship with them. I do not do readings solely to read the minds and motives of other people.
I cannot speak to the dead and I do not know the future or make guaranteed predictions. I do not know when/how you will die or the winning lottery numbers.
I do not read for those under the influence of drugs and alcohol, as that would be an unproductive reading for both parties. To get the most out of a tarot reading, you need to be ready to fully engage in the cards and process their meanings as they pertain to your life and situation.
